Tikidas Course Standards & CE Requirements

Purpose:
This document outlines the required standards for CE courses offered on Tikidas. All courses must comply with California BRN CE requirements and meet quality, educational, and measurable outcomes for nursing professionals.

Download the Tikidas Course Accreditation form here if your course will provide CEs. You will need to download a copy of it to edit it and add information. 


1. Course Description

  • Provide a brief paragraph (2–4 sentences) describing:

    • The content of the course

    • Who the course is for (RN, LVN, NP, or other healthcare professionals)

    • The value/benefit for learners

Example:

“This course is designed for registered nurses to enhance clinical decision-making in acute care settings. By the end of this course, learners will be able to identify early warning signs of patient deterioration and implement evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes.”


2. Target Audience

  • RN, LVN, NP

  • Other healthcare professionals (if applicable, e.g., PT, OT)


3. Needs Assessment / Professional Practice Gap

  • Identify the current issue or gap in knowledge, skills, or practice.

  • Explain how this impacts nursing practice and patient care.

  • Describe the opportunity for improvement.

4. Learning Objectives

  • List 3–5 measurable, action-oriented objectives.

  • Use verbs such as: demonstrate, apply, identify, analyze, evaluate, examine.

Example:

  1. Identify early warning signs of sepsis in adult patients.

  2. Apply evidence-based interventions to prevent patient deterioration.

  3. Analyze clinical data to prioritize nursing actions in acute care.


5. Expected Outcomes

  • Describe what learners are expected to achieve or change after completing the course.

  • Include clinical, administrative, or educational outcomes.

  • Specify how outcomes will be measured.

7. Course Content & Timing

  • Include lesson titles, subtopics, activities, and time estimates.

  • Recommended: lesson videos ≤10 minutes each; total CE course ≈ 50 minutes for 1 CE.

8. References

  • Include at least 2–3 references in APA format supporting the course content and need.

9. CE Compliance

All courses must:

  • Follow California Board of Registered Nursing CE guidelines

  • Clearly state learning objectives and measurable outcomes

  • Include relevant, evidence-based content

  • Provide documentation of completion for learners (certificate including license number)


Notes for Instructors:

  • You can submit courses for 1 CE or more, specifying total time on the course planning form.

  • Total lesson videos should be under 10 minutes each if possible.

  • Non-CE courses can range from 15 minutes to any length suitable for content delivery.
